Arestin Medication
ARESTIN® is a locally administered antibiotic used to help treat periodontal disease. It contains minocycline and is placed directly into infected periodontal pockets, where harmful bacteria can collect beneath the gumline. ARESTIN is commonly used along with scaling and root planing to help reduce bacteria and support gum healing.
During treatment, the dental professional applies the medication as a fine powder into targeted gum pockets. The microspheres gradually release the antibiotic over time, allowing it to work directly at the site of infection. Application is quick, typically requires no anesthesia, and the medication does not need to be removed.
Following treatment, patients will receive instructions to protect the treated areas and promote healing. ARESTIN does not replace daily brushing, flossing, professional cleanings, or ongoing periodontal maintenance. When combined with good oral hygiene and regular dental care, it can help reduce periodontal pocket depth and improve gum health.
